Behind the Headlines: The Reason Why Logistics Giant Ceva is Cutting 142 Jobs in Tennessee

Majority of affected employees at 2 facilities offered jobs on other shifts

French-owned 3PL Ceva Logistics is eliminating 142 jobs in Tennessee

Ceva Logistics, a global logistics giant, recently made headlines after filing paperwork with the state's Department of Labor and Workforce Development indicating that it will lay off 142 employees on April 22 from two of its facilities in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. As required by federal law, the company, which is owned by the French container carrier CMA CGM, submitted its Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice on February 21.

According to Ceva Logistics, the permanent layoffs at the facility are a result of changes in its customers' operations, and the company has adjusted its shifts accordingly. The company stated in a statement that "the majority of those affected by this transition will be offered positions on other shifts with openings."

The facility in question employs approximately 700 individuals, and the layoffs will undoubtedly shock those affected as well as the surrounding community. However, it is important to note that the company operates multiple facilities on its Nashville campus, which is staffed by over 1,300 individuals and serves multiple customers.

The layoffs at Ceva Logistics are a sad reminder of the industry's volatility, according to one perspective. In any case, the fact that Ceva Logistics has pledged to support its employees throughout this transition bodes well for the company's future and the logistics industry as a whole.
