Drone Delivery Canada Secures Grant for Eco-Friendly Delivery Solutions

The Downsview Aerospace Innovation and Research (DAIR) Green Fund has recently awarded Drone Delivery Canada (DDC) a grant of up to $75,000. This grant bolsters the company's clean energy drone delivery solution and propels it toward a more sustainable future.

    Supporting Green Aviation Technologies

The DAIR Green Fund, which is supported by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), provides financial assistance to collaborative projects that demonstrate a positive impact on the future of aerospace through sustainable and environmentally friendly aviation technologies and solutions.

Utilizing Funds for the Care by Air Project

DDC intends to use the funds to cover the operating expenses of its Care by Air project, a collaboration with Halton Healthcare and DSV Air & Sea Canada. These funds will also be used to manage the expenses related to obtaining the regulatory approvals required to advance beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations.

    Advancing BVLOS capabilities

DDC will be able to introduce new project phases and expand their delivery routes once BVLOS is attained. "We are honored to be one of only eight recipients of funding from the DAIR Green Fund. We are excited to use the funds to expand our BVLOS capabilities and approvals. The mission of the DAIR Green Fund aligns perfectly with our mission to develop and commercialize sustainable and disruptive innovations for our clients," "CEO of DDC Steve Magirias stated.

    Promoting a Net-Zero Economy

The Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario, Filomena Tassi, emphasized the significance of supporting businesses that pioneer the development of sustainable innovations in order to promote the expansion of Canada's aerospace industry. "To achieve our goal of becoming a net-zero economy, we must ensure that industries have the new capabilities and technology they need to make the transition without difficulty," said Tassi.

The Care by Air Project: Delivering Healthcare Goods

The Care by Air project intends to facilitate defined-route deliveries from DSV to Halton Healthcare's Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital using DDC's Sparrow drone, DroneSpot takeoff and landing zones, and the company's FLYTE software. Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in Oakville, Ontario, will receive a variety of medical supplies, including medical isotopes for cancer treatment (supplied by McMaster University), via cargo drones to ensure rapid and efficient delivery.
