Digital insurance startup Breeze appoints Patrizia Kern as Chief Insurance Officer

Breeze, a digital insurance startup that developed an online platform for freight forwarders and logistics firms, has named Patrizia Kern as its Chief Insurance Officer. With over 30 years of experience in the marine insurance industry, Kern's most recent position was leading the cargo and hull business for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' global marine division. Combining new technology, data, and machine learning, Breeze, according to Kern, is leading the digital revolution in marine and cargo insurance. These will completely transform the marine and cargo insurance industry to provide greater freight management transparency and efficiency, thereby making shipping more sustainable, profitable, and safe.

Kern's contribution to the industry's sustainability

Kern has extensive experience using technology and risk intelligence to promote sustainability in the global maritime insurance industry. She chairs the Poseidon Principles for Marine Insurance (PPMI), an initiative launched in 2021 to accelerate the decarbonization of the shipping industry, as well as the International Union of Marine Insurance's Big-Data and Digitalization Forum and Nominating Committee (IUMI). Additionally, Kern is a member of the advisory boards for the Global Maritime Forum (GMF), Lloyd's Register, and the ICC Digital Standard Initiative.

    Kern's consulting and mentoring roles

Kern will continue to serve as a consultant for marine sustainability for the chief executive office of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions. In addition, she recently became a mentor for Women in Aviation and Logistics' (WAL), a non-profit organization that supports the career aspirations of women professionals and aims to close the gender gap in aviation and logistics.

    Breeze's tailored insurance platform

Breeze offers instant, all-risk cargo coverage that is fully integrated into existing operational workflows, and is designed specifically for freight forwarders and logistics companies. The platform is completely automated and user-friendly. According to Breeze's Chief Commercial Officer, Matthew Phillips, approximately 70% of global trade is either uninsured or underinsured. Given the growing number of risks affecting supply chains, he also stated that it is more important than ever for cargo to be adequately insured. With Breeze, forwarders can seamlessly provide shippers with the necessary coverage.

Breeze's expansion and Kern's contribution to its growth

Breeze has just opened its first office in the United States, following a successful expansion in the United Kingdom. Phillips believes that Kern's experience and enthusiasm will be a significant asset to Breeze's expanding team. Breeze is pleased to welcome Kern to the team and looks forward to her leveraging her market expertise to accelerate the industry's transformation with impactful end-to-end, digital, and data-driven insurance products.
